An unhappy black mamba bares its fangs

Many poisonous snakes are shy and retiring, only baring their fangs when they feel cornered. The huge (up to 14 feet) black mamba is considered the crème de la crème of venomous snakes because not only does it have a deadly bite, it’s also extremely aggressive and will chase any person or animal that it perceives as a threat. Should be easy enough to outrun a snake, right? Nope—and that’s what makes the black mamba so feared in Africa: it has an insanely fast slither (up to 12.5 mph). Once it catches up to its target, it will attack with repeated bites—each injecting lethal amounts of poison—killing the victim within minutes unless an anti-venin is administered. We’re too scared to write any more, but if you haven’t gotten your fill of black mamba facts, click here.
