Our friend Mishawn was scheduled to leave for Haiti with a group of other nurses this Sunday. Supplies of food and medicine have been pouring in and the nurses have been packing and repacking their bags. Sadly, their trip was postposed at the last minute because American Airlines cancelled all flights into Haiti after a large (6+) aftershock struck a few days ago. The group is trying to decide whether to charter a plane that would leave next week or wait until American resumes flying to Haiti in six weeks. Luckily the hospital they work at is allowing them to reschedule their trip as needed.
Meanwhile, Mishawn said that doctors on the ground in Haiti have only a small fraction of the medical supplies they need. If the nurses make it to Haiti in the next few weeks, they will be bringing critical instruments for major surgeries as well as basic painkillers and other meds. Our fingers are crossed!
